407 Visa: Training Visa (Subclass 407)

The 407 Training Visa is a temporary visa designed for individuals seeking to undertake occupational training or professional development in Australia. It is ideal for those who need practical experience for registration or to build capacity in their occupation.

Streams Available Under the 407 Visa

There are three distinct training streams:

  • Training for Registration: For applicants needing hands-on experience to meet professional registration or licensing requirements in their field.
  • Occupational Training: On-the-job training to enhance skills in a listed occupation.
  • Capacity Building Training: Supports skill development for professionals from overseas.

Fransvic Migration primarily assists with applications under the registration and occupational training streams.

Employer Sponsorship Requirements

To apply for a 407 visa, you must be nominated by an approved Temporary Activity Sponsor.

Important points:

  • Only approved organizations can sponsor applicants — individuals or sole traders are not eligible.
  • Employers must prepare the required documentation and a structured training plan that clearly outlines learning goals, timelines, and supervision.

General Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for a 407 visa, applicants must:

  •  Hold adequate health insurance
  •  Have enough funds to support their stay in Australia
  •  Be a genuine temporary entrant
  •  Have Competent English

Family members and partners can be included in the application. However, dependents have limited work rights — up to 40 hours per fortnight.

Skills Development Stream

To apply under this stream, you must show that in the past 24 months, you have:
– Worked or studied full-time for at least 12 months in the nominated occupation

This stream is well-suited for those who have studied or gained experience on visas such as subclass 500, 485, 418, or 462.

Employers are required to submit a comprehensive training plan including:

  •  Clear objectives and timelines
  •  Breakdown of activities (training vs. observation)
  •  Assessment of your current skills and target outcomes
  •  Evidence that the nominated trainer is qualified and experienced

The training must be for at least 30 hours per week.

Registration Stream

This stream is intended for those who require additional experience to meet licensing or registration standards in their occupation.

Applicants must provide:

  •  Relevant qualifications and work experience
  •  A training plan aligned with the requirements of the licensing/registration authority
  •  A letter from the regulatory body confirming that the training is necessary for obtaining registration

Visa Duration

The 407 visa is typically granted for 6 months to 2 years, depending on the length of the required training. Once completed, you may be eligible to apply for another visa based on your updated skills and experience.
