190 Visa: Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

The Subclass 190 visa is a points-based permanent residency visa available to skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory.

What is the Skilled Nominated 190 Visa?

This visa allows individuals who are skilled in a particular occupation to move to Australia permanently, but they must be sponsored by an Australian state or territory. It is designed for those who can contribute to the local workforce and economy.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the 190 visa, you must meet the required points score, which is based on factors such as:

  • Age
  • English language proficiency
  • Qualifications
  • Skilled work experience
  • State nomination

Additionally, you must:

  • Obtain a positive skills assessment for an occupation listed on the 190 visa occupation list.
  • Be nominated by a state or territory government.
  • Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect.
  • Be under 45 years of age at the time of application.
  • Meet health and character standards.

State Sponsorship

Each state or territory has its own unique requirements for state sponsorship. Some regions may face shortages in specific skilled professions, which could improve your chances of being nominated if your occupation is in demand. The state occupation lists are updated regularly, so it’s crucial to stay informed about the latest changes or work with a Registered Migration Agent to maximize your chances.

Requirements may vary by state. For example, one state may require a higher English language score, while another might request a job offer or proof of substantial financial resources.

Skill Assessment

A positive skills assessment is a key step in the application process. This assessment can be intricate and may require detailed documentation, such as educational qualifications, career experience, and professional references. It’s vital that all information is accurate and well-documented. A Registered Migration Agent can help ensure you meet the requirements and present a strong case.

Expression of Interest (EOI)

Once you have a positive skills assessment, you must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect. Be sure that all claims made in your EOI are verifiable, as you’ll need to back them up when invited to apply. After submitting your EOI, you’ll enter the pool of applicants, and states will select candidates for nomination.

Once nominated, you will be invited to apply for the visa. Some states may require you to submit your application within 14 days of receiving the invitation. Upon state approval, you’ll have 60 days to submit your full application for the 190 visa.
