482 Visa – Skills in Demand (SID) Visa Overview
The Skills in Demand (SID) Visa (subclass 482) is Australia’s updated solution to address evolving labor market needs. Replacing the previous Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, this new framework is designed to offer clearer and more structured pathways for skilled workers aiming for permanent residency in Australia.
The SID visa allows eligible workers to stay in Australia for up to four years, providing access to various streams based on skill level and salary thresholds.
Available Streams Under the SID Visa
🔹 Specialist Skills Pathway (SSP)
Tailored for highly experienced professionals earning $135,000 or more annually (indexed yearly), this stream excludes occupations such as trade workers, drivers, machinery operators, and general laborers.
🔹 Core Skills Stream
Applicants under this stream must have an occupation listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), with a minimum annual salary of $73,150 (subject to indexation). A minimum of one year’s relevant work experience is typically required.
🔹 Essential Skills Pathway
This pathway targets skilled workers earning less than $70,000 annually, especially those in critical sectors like aged care, where demand is high. The focus is on essential roles that require immediate workforce support.
